New Scoil Nioclais Sensory Garden
We have been collaborating with the Green School committee to make a new sensory garden for the school! The beds run from the yellow back door all he way up to the veg beds near the arch under the metal bridge.
Thanks to everyone who bought a ticket in the Easter egg raffle half of the proceeds have gone towards the garden and thanks to the Parents Association, who matched this amount. Thank you Bean Uí Laoire for also adding to the funding of our new garden.
Our first job was to make the raised beds ! Thank you Mr Walsh for putting them together. We then filled the beds with soil and thank you Michael for helping us!
Then it was on to the fun part....the planting ! Fourth classes are the care takers and we have been looking after the veg garden which now becomes the "taste" section !
Our veg plot has two new big beds and the four old small beds ! Mr Walsh and Ms Bradley's classes planted potatoes, pumpkins, carrots, onions, rhubarb. Thank you to Hanley's and Griffin's garden centre who gave us a generous discount on plants for the garden.

Mr Moynihan's fifth planted potatoes and onions in one of the big beds.
Ms Quigney brought some lucky pupils with her to plant strawberries in the veg garden!
Ms Downing and the Green School committee with senior infants planted the "sight" bed, which is near the yellow door! They also added the lovely fairy doors.
Ms Ruane's pupils planted the "smell" section of the garden and we even saw a hummingbird hawk moth enjoying the nectar from the jasmine. We think this bed will be very popular with the insects.
Some of Mr Flynn's class planted the "touch" section of the garden.
Some of Ms Bradley's pupils helped plant up the sound bed with some pupils from third class.
Now that the rain is back we won't need to water as often but that means we're now on "slug watch" and "weed watch" !
